The JRD Vietnam Joint Venture Co. has received permission from the Mnistry of Planning and Investment to build a factory to manufacture seven-ton trucks and buses of up to 16 seats, bringing the number of foreign-invested carmakers to 13.
The US$70-million auto factory, located on 100ha in An My commune, Tuy An district, in central Phu Yen province, will have an annual capacity of 10,00 trucks and 5,000 buses for both the local and export markets.
The Vietnam-Malaysia 30-70 joint venture between the Phu Yen Imporort and the Export Co. and JRD Motor Vehicle Co. Ltd. will also produce car parts for trailers.
JRD Vietnam will kick off construction of the factory in September and will recruit over 1,000 workers.
