Vietnam Considers Prevention as Way to Avoid Trade Rows

Prevention is the first measure Vietnam needs to consider in order to avoid potential trade disputes with other countries effectively, according to a government directive.

The country needs to take the initiative to prevent any trade row, which is the top requirement of a directive signed by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

When a trade row erupts, all necessary measures must be actively taken to minimize any negative impact on involved industries and the country’s businesses, the directive says.

It says businesses and industries should become proficient at international trade law, domestic trade laws of Vietnam, and trade laws of other countries as well.

Apart from legal means, it is also crucial to resort to other measures, for example lobbying or public campaigning, the directive said. The directive also stated government authorities need to provide information and guidance for businesses to prevent trade disputes.
