The Polish Chamber of Economics and Commerce in Vietnam said that Vietnam-Poland two-way trade hit US$109.61 million in the first six months of this year, a considerable rise in comparison with earlier years. Of the sum, Vietnam earned US$19.41 million on importing from Poland but spent US$90.2 million.

Vietnam mainly imported materials, machinery for shipbuilding and mining industries, drugs and milk products from Poland while the Vietnam mostly exported rice, tea, coffee, footwear, apparel and foodstuff to Poland.

Poland’s shipbuilding development credit contract worth US$70 million will expire at the end of this year. Under the contract, Poland has so far exported materials, equipment and machinery for shipbuilding industry valued at US$62 million to Vietnam. The remainder of the contract, covering Poland’s supply of materials and equipment and the transfer of technology, will be completed by the end of this year.

The cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop in many fields thanks to the continual credit granting policy of the Polish Government for Vietnam. Currently, the ministries of finance of the two countries are in negotiations on procedures and terms for two new credit contracts, US$80 million and US$200 million, for the development of the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry and the building of a 200-MW thermal power plant invested by the Vietnam Coal Corporation (Vinacoal).
