The 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in Ho Chi Minh City and Cities/Provinces in Southern Vietnam

The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, officially announces organization of the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in Ho Chi Minh City and other 14 provinces and cities in Southern Vietnam.

This year, International Day of Yoga in Ho Chi Minh City is jointly organized by the Consulate General of India, the Department External Relations in Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations - HUFO; and Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam - INCHAM. The said event will be celebrated at Nguyen Hue Walking Street of District 1 between 0600 and 0800 on 21.06.2022. Around 1,000 yoga enthusiasts are expected to join the mass performance of asanas.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City shares, “Vietnam is the friendliest country for India. The relationship between President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has no parallel in history. Our engagement at highest level has continued to recent times. Celebration of International Day of Yoga, a traditional and mindful practice originated from India shall become a remarkable point in our series of activities to celebrate 50th year of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam.

Besides, other 14 provinces and cities in Southern Vietnam shall also jointly celebrate the International Day of Yoga with the Consulate General of India in June and July, 2022. Those are Binh Thuan Province, Dak Nong Province, Dong Thap Province, Dak Lak Province, Can Tho City, Khanh Hoa Province, Phu Yen Province, Tien Giang Province, Soc Trang Province, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, Dong Nai Province, Ninh Thuan Province, Binh Phuoc Province, and Binh Dinh. Celebration of International day of Yoga is expected to become a great platform for yoga enthusiasts to showcase and share their passions on achieving a healthy living lifestyle.

International Day of Yoga - On 11 December 2014, the United Nations, under its resolution 69/13, proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The event aims to raise awareness worldwide of many benefits of practicing yoga, an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. This year, “Yoga for Humanity” has been choose as theme for celebration of IDY in keeping the spirit of collective quest of humanity for promoting sustainable lifestyle in harmony with planet Earth in view of worldwide resumption of COVID- 19 pandemic.
