Decision makers, end-users and all other maritime players in the region will get a glimpse of the industry’s agenda for the next decades to come, understanding new approaches to remain its competitiveness in Southeast Asia region.

Vietnam’s economy grew at the fastest pace in Asia in 2022, its maritime sector has also shown remarkable growth, resilience, and adaptability despite setbacks in the aftermath of Covid-19. In the same year, the volume of container cargo through the seaport is estimated at 25.09 million TEUs, an increase of 5% compared to 2021, of which the volume of import and export goods for international transport of Vietnam's shipping fleet increases by 10%. (about 1.29 million tons) compared to 2021. Vietnam's shipping fleet aims to expand international transport routes, becoming the gateway for maritime traffic in Southeast Asia.

Shipping is responsible for the transport of 90% of Vietnam’s import and export cargo volumes and a portion of domestically circulated goods, it is the lifeline of Vietnam’s transport and distribution systems. Hiep Khuong Business Director and Head of Project Management of Royal HaskoningDHV added, “Vietnam’s growing export-oriented economy and its role in global supply chains have caused many of its ports to operate at near or full capacity. Coupled with a relatively underdeveloped road and rail infrastructure, this has led to congestion, delays and increased logistics costs. To future proof Vietnam’s maritime sector, every local business needs to play its role in tapping into innovation and digitalisation, enabling the country to reach its full potential.”

“Vietnam is an active member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as it pursues its sustainable development. The country’s Net Zero commitment by 2050 includes an ambitious plan for a green port, making it an exciting and challenging time for Vietnam’s maritime industry. To achieve these goals by 2050, there is a need for the entire Vietnam maritime sector to learn about the strategic necessity.”

“As Asia continues to maintain its foothold in the global economy, we have to remain attuned to the industry’s needs by bringing in prominent players to share insights and inspire dialogues. APM 2024 will play a pivotal role in combining high-powered conferences, cutting-edge exhibitions and networking sessions to foster networking opportunities,” said Yeow Hui Leng, Group Project Director, RX Singapore. “Vietnam’s maritime industry is well positioned to rise in importance and we’re excited to welcome the Vietnam community to APM 2024. I trust that the APM exhibition in Singapore will facilitate discussions and relationships with international stakeholders who are keen to collaborate with Vietnam.”
