Vietnam Reports 17.2 per cent Industrial Growth in 2005

Vietnam is estimated to reach total industrial production value of VND42.97 trillion (US$2.71 billion) in December, raising the total figure of this year to VND416.86 trillion (US$26.38 billion), an on-year increase of 17.2 per cent, according to the Government statistics office (GSO).
 
Of all economic sectors, the non-State sector attained the highest growth rate in 2005 at 24.1 per cent, to reach an output value of VND118.85 trillion (US$7.5 billion), followed by the foreign-invested sector with a 20.9 per cent increase to VND154.93 trillion ($9.8 billion). Meanwhile, State-owned firms gained a total value of VND143 trillion ($9 billion) in the year, up 8.7 per cent.  
 
Ten industries recording the highest growth rates in 2005 include machine-tools (32.8 per cent), assembled automobiles (31.1 per cent), fertilizer (24.7 per cent), NaOH soda (23.9 per cent), floor tiles (21.9 per cent), laminated steel ($21.8 per cent), coal (21.7 per cent), processed seafood (15.9 per cent), electricity (15.4 per cent) and canned milk (15.2 per cent).
 
Meanwhile, diesel engines dropped by 19.5 per cent, honey and sugar went down 18.5 per cent, transformers 13.4 per cent, crude oil 7.7 per cent, assemble TVs 5 per cent, natural gas 7.3 per cent, phial medicines 6.9 per cent, electric engines 4.6 per cent and batteries 1.3 per cent. 
 
All major cities and provinces nationwide are estimated to enjoy growth in their industrial production value in 2005.
 
The northern province of Vinh Phuc leads the country in industrial growth in the year with 31.8 per cent, followed by southern Binh Duong province with an increase of 31 per cent. 
 
Southern Can Tho province came next with a growth rate of 23.3 per cent. The southern province of Dong Nai took the fourth position in growth of production value, at 21.8 per cent. Northern Hai Duong province followed with 21 per cent. 
 
The northern province of Ha Tay ranked sixth with a 20.8 per cent increase, and central Khanh Hoa province came next with 19 per cent.
 
Central Danang city took the eighth position with 18.7 per cent, followed by northern port city of Haiphong and the northern province of Quang Ninh with 18.1 per cent.
 
HanoiCity ranked tenth with 15.5 per cent and northern Phu Tho province came next with 14.9 per cent. 
 
Ho Chi Minh City took 12th position with an increase of 14.4 per cent, followed by southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province with a growth rate of 14 per cent. Central Thanh Hoa province stood in the 14th position with 12.9 per cent.
