German speciality glass company SCHOTT participated in the “Understanding Real Goods – Avoiding Fake Goods” exhibition organized by the Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance (DMS) from November 22-29 at 62 Trang Tien Street in Hanoi. SCHOTT is among the few selected companies that have been invited to showcase their products at the exhibition.

The exhibition, now in its 14th year, is part of a series of efforts to mark the government-approved Fight Against Counterfeit and Imitated Goods Day. The goal is to educate the public on trademark protection, counterfeiting, and the differences between genuine and fake goods. The exhibition showcases over 450 products from leading brands from Japan, Germany, USA, Korea, Vietnam, and China, all of which have been registered for protection in Vietnam.

The technology group SCHOTT holds the trademark for CERAN®, the world’s leading glass-ceramic cooktop panel brand. Since its introduction in 1971, SCHOTT CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop panels have become one of the company's most successful and recognizable products. This top-seller has been purchased over 200 million times across more than 150 countries.

At the exhibition, SCHOTT showcased genuine SCHOTT CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop panels alongside their counterfeit counterparts. The fake panels, which suffer from poor resistance to heat and mechanical stress, often perform poorly and break down easily, posing significant health and safety risks to consumers. Consumers can identify these substandard products by looking for defects such as bubbles, inclusions, scratches on the surface, excessive shininess, and variations of the SCHOTT CERAN® logo.

According to Mr. Tran Huu Linh, DMS Director General, the counterfeiting situation in Vietnam remains severe, exacerbated by online infringement. The increasing variety of goods in the market also means a rise in fake products. This creates significant challenges for brand owners, authorities, and especially local customers in identifying and purchasing genuine goods while avoiding low-quality imitations.

SCHOTT vows to protect Vietnamese consumers from fake products

SCHOTT CERAN® is a registered and protected trademark in Vietnam. The company’s legal team actively monitors and addresses trademark abuse and infringement in cooperation with Vietnamese authorities. SCHOTT also actively participates in the fight against counterfeit products by assisting in the investigation and handling of violations to improve the efficiency of anti-fake campaigns. Furthermore, SCHOTT regularly conducts training workshops for DMS officials, helping them distinguish between genuine and fake SCHOTT CERAN® products. These initiatives are part of SCHOTT's broader commitment to ensuring the integrity of its brand and safeguarding consumer trust in Vietnam.

“Here at SCHOTT, we are dedicated to collaborating closely with the DMS and other Vietnamese authorities to tackle the issue of counterfeit products and the significant risks they pose to consumers in Vietnam,” stated Christiane Donndorf, Senior Project Lead Marketing Asia at SCHOTT. “We are committed to raising awareness among Vietnamese consumers about the dangers of fake products and strongly encourage them to opt for genuine SCHOTT CERAN® cooktops, which are certified by SCHOTT and our trusted local partners.”
