Vietnam Wins 2006's 2nd Tender to Export Rice to Japan
Domestic enterprises have just won the second tender to sell 35,000 tons of long ordinary rice to Japan this year, according to the Vietnam Commercial Affairs in Japan.
This is the second consecutive time Vietnam has won bid to export rice to the eastern country for 2006, the first being a shipment of 21,000 tons.
Total volume of Vietnamese rice signed for exports to Japan has, thus, reached as many as 56,000 tons so far this year.
Last year, Vietnam shipped nearly 89,000 tons of rice to Japan. Of which, 79,000 tons, including 80,000 tons of glutinous rice, were gained from tenders launched by the Japanese government.
Vietnamese rice exports to Japan have been growing over the years as Japan is considered a demanding market for food products.
On February, the Japanese Ministry of Agro-Forestry and Aquaculture notified Vietnamese Commercial Affairs that all Vietnamese rice shipments to Japan would be taken under strict inspection for Orysastrobin residues.
