30 years of creating sustainable footprints in Vietnam

Since setting foot in Vietnam, Unilever has become an indispensable choice for millions of Vietnamese people. Over the past 30 years, Unilever Vietnam's products, including Lifebuoy, OMO, Sunsilk and P/S, have become household names, significantly enhancing the quality of life for families across the country. At the same time, Unilever has consistently worked to make a positive impact on the Vietnamese people, solidifying its position as a leader in global sustainable development through initiatives focused on environmental protection and community support.

Coupling business with social responsibility, Unilever Vietnam has become an important factor in Vietnamese quality of life improvement programs through a series of community projects, from personal hygiene education and water supply to women’s economic empowerment in disadvantaged areas. These efforts have touched millions of people and helped change living conditions and raise public awareness of sustainability.

Joint effort for a sustainable Vietnam

While Vietnam is facing serious environmental and social challenges, Unilever Vietnam not only regards long-term development as a core value but also realizes this commitment through practical actions that bring long-term values. Since 2020, the company has taken the lead in constructing a plastic waste collection and recycling system and given a helping hand to the effort of reducing environmental pollution and shaping a zero-waste future. Furthermore, within the framework of the “Action for a Green Vietnam” Program, the company has also planted 690,000 trees and hoped to grow 1 million trees by 2025, thus helping safeguard the ecosystem and improve air quality.

Besides environmental initiatives, Unilever pays special attention to bettering the quality of life for the community, especially women. Through the “Vietnamese Women Confidently Do Business” Program, the company has supported thousands of women across the country with startup training courses and practical resources to improve their livelihoods and promote gender equality.

These efforts have been recognized with the Human Act Prize - Sustainable Project Category, with the “Pioneering journey to carbon neutrality in operations” initiative. This not only recognizes Unilever’s contributions but also inspires the company to continue its sustainable development journey, and spread inspiration to other businesses and accompany Vietnam in building a green and prosperous future.

In addition to social activities, Unilever Vietnam has consistently fostered a human-centric internal working environment, as demonstrated by its receipt of many prestigious awards. Most recently, the company was ranked number one on the list of the 100 Best Workplaces in Vietnam by Anphabe.

Toward a “green future” with four strategic priorities

In the future, Unilever Vietnam will continue its mission of leading the sustainable development journey with four ambitious strategic priorities, demonstrating its strong commitments to climate, nature, plastics and livelihoods.

Concerning climate, Unilever is committed to achieving net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2039. To attain this goal, the company has shifted to using 100% renewable energy in all production activities. Moreover, Unilever has constantly looked for solutions to reduce water consumption, aiming to build “greener” and more environmentally friendly manufacturing plants. This commitment goes beyond catchwords, with practical actions to create lasting impacts on the fight against climate change.

Regarding nature protection, Unilever clearly defines its role in regenerating and preserving agricultural and natural ecosystems. The company is committed to maintaining sustainable sourcing, not only meeting production needs but also supporting local livelihoods. Partnership programs have helped increase economic value while protecting land and natural resources and building a harmonious future between people and the environment.

Plastics is also at the heart of Unilever's strategy. Unilever takes the lead in collecting and recycling plastics. These initiatives help ease the impact of plastic waste on the environment and contribute to building a circular economy where resources are reused to a maximum. Through intensive skills training programs and comprehensive welfare policies, Unilever not only provides stability but also strongly inspires the workforce.

With these four strategic priorities, Unilever Vietnam sets business goals and also commits to bringing long-term values to the community and the environment. These important steps demonstrate the firm’s determination and deep responsibility on the journey to build a better future for all.

With three decades of presence in Vietnam, Unilever has demonstrated its leadership in integrating business with social responsibility. Its achievements reflect its commitment to the country’s sustainable development and affirm its long-term vision and business strategy for the future, focusing on green development and the prosperity of Vietnam.
