Dong Thap has identified pangasius as a strategic sector and is implementing a series of measures to enhance value-added production and ensure sustainable development. The province is focusing on farming zone planning, applying high technology, conducting environmental monitoring, assigning farming area identification codes, and promoting digital transformation in production monitoring.

Companies such as Hung Ca Co., Ltd and IDI operate closed production models certified by ASC, BAP, and GlobalGAP. Both vertical and horizontal linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises continue to expand, ensuring stable market outlets.

In the first six months of 2025, Vietnam’s total pangasius output reached 871,900 tons (+4.5%), with Dong Thap accounting for 35%. Export value reached USD 1.023 billion, up 11% year-on-year.

In addition to frozen fillets, the province is promoting the development of value-added products such as fish cakes, collagen, fish oil, and animal feed made from by-products. At the same time, it is strengthening traceability implementation and standardizing processes in accordance with VietGAP, ASC, and other certifications.

The Vietnam Pangasius Association has recommended that Dong Thap focus on products tailored to each market: fish steaks for Africa, skinless fillets for Japan, and fish cakes for ASEAN, while modernizing the supply chain and expanding into premium markets. With this direction, Dong Thap is gradually affirming its leading role in Vietnam’s pangasius industry.
