The New Zealand Education Day 2025, the country’s largest annual education event organised by Education New Zealand (ENZ) in collaboration with the New Zealand Embassy and Consulate-General, recorded its highest attendance ever with more than 1,300 visitors.

This remarkable turnout highlights the growing appeal of New Zealand’s education system among Vietnamese families and reflects the continued trust of parents and learners in New Zealand as a study destination.

The number of Vietnamese students studying in New Zealand in 2024 increased by 12% compared to the previous year. Notably, enrolments in secondary schools and institutes of technology both rose by around 20%. The number of Vietnamese students at New Zealand universities has already surpassed pre-COVID levels, signalling a strong recovery in international education and growing interest from Vietnamese families across all levels of study.

The 2025 Education Day carried special significance as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand. In his opening remarks, Mr. Ben Burrowes, Regional Director, Asia, Education New Zealand (ENZ), emphasised that the event was more than an annual showcase – it was a comprehensive and engaging platform for Vietnamese students and parents.

“We want this event to be more than a place to meet schools. It’s a platform where parents and students can find trust, accurate information, and clear direction for the future. New Zealand is proud to offer a world-class education that focuses on skill development for a global generation, while ensuring a safe, diverse and supportive study experience for every learner,” said Mr. Ben Burrowes.

This year’s event brought together nearly 50 leading New Zealand institutions – from primary and secondary schools to English language centres, world-renowned universities, and institutes recognised for producing work-ready graduates. Parents and students had the opportunity to meet school representatives directly to discuss study pathways, scholarships, and student support services.

A key highlight was the 1-on-1 consultation booths hosted by New Zealand alumni and parents who currently have children studying in New Zealand. These sessions allowed attendees to gain first-hand insights from those with lived experience – stories about learning environments, daily life, and cultural adaptation that offered a genuine picture of studying and living in New Zealand.

Another standout moment was the uniform showcase featuring distinctive school uniforms from 30 New Zealand institutions, from primary to tertiary level, providing a vivid glimpse into the country’s school life and educational spirit.

In addition, New Zealand government officials presented updates on government-funded scholarships at all levels and recent adjustments to visa policies and international student rights – including the increase of part-time work hours for international students to 25 hours per week.

New Zealand is one of the few countries that accepts results from all four globally recognised English proficiency tests – IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, and Duolingo – for study entry requirements. At the Educatoion Day, experts held a dedicated session to explain the characteristics and scoring systems of each test, helping students choose the one best suited to their abilities and personal circumstances. Visitors also enjoyed free mock tests and received personalised preparation advice from specialists.

The event’s partners – including New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), Cathay Pacific Airways, Educational Testing Service (ETS), Pearson Education Group (owner of PTE Academic), Duolingo English Test, PTE Helper, PTE Magic, DOL English, and the Prep online learning platform – contributed to the festive atmosphere with engaging activities such as “Taste of New Zealand” experiences, interactive English challenges, and cultural quizzes, along with a range of attractive prizes and giveaways.
