As a key component of the provincial industrial structure and a leading export sector, Phu Tho’s electronics industry is growing rapidly, fueled by the expansion of FDI enterprises and a more complete supporting-industry ecosystem.

FDI enterprises expand and stimulate supporting-industry demand

Phu Tho is home to around 300 electronics enterprises, most of which are from South Korea and Japan. The presence of companies such as Partron Vina, BHflex Vina, and more recently UTI Vina demonstrates that the province’s electronics industry is not only expanding in scale but is also clearly moving toward high-technology production with greater added value. This provides a foundation for the supporting industry to strengthen its capabilities and integrate more closely with global supply chains.

Partron Vina, one of the first FDI investors, has continually expanded in scale and increased its investment capital from US$4 million to more than US$269 million by 2024. With an annual capacity of up to 1.57 billion products, the company requires a large, stable supply of components, materials, and supporting services that meet international standards.

BHflex Vina, a high-tech enterprise certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is also a major driver of supporting-industry growth. Its core product is the flexible printed circuit board. The company has invested heavily in automation and applied AI and Big Data analytics in quality management. This model has spread to domestic suppliers, requiring them to standardize processes and upgrade technology to meet the conditions needed to participate in BHflex Vina’s production chain.

The arrival of UTI Vina in 2024 and its plan to develop a US$500 million project producing protective glass for smart device screens has created another strong boost to the supporting industry. This large project not only expands production value but also opens many partnership opportunities for Vietnamese firms in precision engineering, materials, technical packaging, logistics, and high-tech processing.

Supporting industries grow stronger through policy and infrastructure

In recent years, Phu Tho has followed a consistent strategy to develop its electronics industry by attracting high-technology projects. The province has actively upgraded transport infrastructure connecting it with major production hubs such as Ha Noi and Bac Ninh, while leveraging the Vinh Phuc Inland Container Depot (ICD) to improve export logistics.

Thanks to a more complete ecosystem, provincial electronics enterprises have maintained high growth. In the first ten months of 2025, laptop output reached nearly 26 million units, up more than 80%, while electronic component production services were estimated at more than VND 229,000 billion, up nearly 29%. These figures demonstrate strong production capacity and effective linkages between electronics manufacturers and supporting-industry suppliers.

Next-generation free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) also offer significant advantages, allowing FDI enterprises to expand production, upgrade product lines, and support the development of domestic supply chains.

Toward a center for innovation and high technology

Phu Tho continues to prioritize the development of supporting industries for electronics as a strategic pillar. The province has directed relevant departments to resolve challenges related to procedures, land, infrastructure, and workforce, and to effectively implement Resolution 57 NQ TW of the Political Bureau on innovation, technology, and digital transformation.

In its medium-term plan, the province aims to establish an Innovation and Startup Center to support the formation of high-tech enterprises and supporting-industry companies in electronics, semiconductors, and AI. At the same time, Phu Tho focuses on training high-quality human resources, a factor that remains in short supply but is essential for enabling supporting-industry firms to join major supply chains.

With rapid FDI expansion, favorable infrastructure, and clear policy orientation, Phu Tho is positioned to become a new growth hub for the northern electronics industry. The breakthrough in supporting industries not only strengthens the sustainable development of the electronics sector but also enhances the province’s competitiveness in an era of deep international integration.
