In late March, 2006, the Eros Trading Joint stock Company began to implement its Vietnam-US trade promotion programme in the US, said Nguyen Phuc Cuong, director of the company. Having received support from authorities of Bakersfield city and in co-operation with professional brokers and dealers, capable of negotiating effectively with famous US distributors, the programme aims to help Vietnamese enterprises promote their export to the US.

The programme is implemented directly via the company's 400-square-metre showroom in Bakersfield, California. The city is located near such major cities as San Jose, San Francisco, Orange County, Houston, Texas and Las Vegas. The showroom opened on March 31 under the witness of officials of Bakersfield, California, local media and overseas Vietnamese and US enterprises.

Cuong said: "Taking part in the programme, products of enterprises will be promoted directly to the US market at reasonable costs. Vietnamese can save their money to join fairs and exhibitions organised annually in the US. Their products will be able to maintain their trademarks without using the services of intermediaries. In addition, enterprises will get updated information about feedback of American consumers about their products, thus helping them perfect their products and services to meet the American standards for imported goods. Furthermore, enterprises will avoid risks as Eros Trading Co. will act as their representative in the US. We provide information about regulations on tax rates and safety levels required by the US customs agency."

As planned, the Eros Trading Co. will change goods made by Vietnamese enterprises for display at its showrooms every quarter, such as handicrafts, construction materials, garments and textiles, furniture, processed and canned food and electric products.

At present, trade promotion activities remain constrained as they are implemented at the governmental level while they should be organised regularly with the involvement of enterprises from various sectors. Therefore, the establishment of such a trade promotion service as that of the Eros Trading Co. will benefit enterprises, especially small and medium-sized ones with small budget and without experience in trade promotion, in particular in the US.
