Isuzu Vietnam will export 109 D-Max pickups to three Southern Pacific nations of New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Samoa from April to June of this year, said Giao Thong Van Tai Newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Transport.

The Japanese-led Isuzu Vietnam won the export contract because Isuzu major factories in Thailand could not meet all the contracts while the quality of D-Max made by Isuzu Vietnam is similar to those in Thailand, it said.

However, the value of the contract is unavailable.

With the global soaring demand for pickups, Isuzu Vietnam expects to obtain more export contracts, a corporate official said.

D-Max pickups, which made a debut in Vietnam in July 2005, feature an aerodynamic stylish body, radiator grille with chrome accent, multi-reflector halogen headlamps, LS-grade fog lamps, multi-reflector indicators, chrome door handles, alloy wheels and chrome side view mirrors.

D-MAX is also equipped with top safety systems like ABS and EBD, two front SRS airbag systems. Also the "shift-on-the-fly" free wheel hubs allowing effortless and one-button shifting from 2H to 4H at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Isuzu Vietnam sold 337 automobiles in Vietnam in the first three months of this year, including only nine D-Max.
