Vietnam to Host 6th Int'l Nuclear Power Exhibition
Hanoi will host the sixth International Nuclear Power Exhibition 2006 entitled “Safety and Economic Competitiveness” from May 16-19 with the participation of four foreign nations, which are famous and advanced in the technology, state media reported.
Four nations include South Korea, Russia, Japan and France, the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VNAEI), the organizer, said, adding that the event will introduce valuable lessons and experience and achievements in the nuclear power sector.
Vuong Huu Tan, director of VNAEI, said that Vietnam will construct the first nuclear two-turbine 2,000-megawatt power plant in Southeast province of Ninh Thuan’s Ninh Phuoc district by 2017.
However, the estimated cost and the detailed construction schedule of the plant is not available.
From 2017 to 2020 the plant is scheduled to be operational, Tan said, adding that the communist-ruled country will step by step raise the output of the nuclear power source to 11 per cent in 2025, 25-30 per cent by 2040 and 2050.
Earlier, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Technology said that it will map out specific plans to further promote atomic energy cooperation with the Vietnam over the next 10 years.
Vietnam’s power demand for production will be 201 billion kWh in 2020 and 327 billion in 2030 while the national energy sources can only supply 165 billion kWh and 208 billion kWh respectively.
