The ambassador of Sweden in Vietnam Anna Lindstedt has been presented with the insignia “For the cause of Environmental Protection” by the Minister of National Resources and Environment Mr Mai Ai Truc on Tuesday, 13 June 2006.

The medal is to recognise her contributions to the implementation of projects and programmes for bilateral development cooperation in the natural resources and environment area during her three-year mission in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Hanoi, Ambassador Anna Lindstedt emphasised that the Government of Vietnam has taken important steps to alleviate poverty and to develop a society built on international principles such as the rule of law and concern about an environmentally sustainable development.

She added that during the newly concluded mid-year Consultative Group Meeting in Nha Trang, environment was one of the issue discussed. However, she called for more time to discuss the topics as promoting an environmentally sustainable development is crucial for fast-growing, developing countries like Vietnam.

Ambassador Anna Lindstedt voiced her pride of Sweden’s support and assistance to Vietnam’s natural resources and environment and said that Sweden will continue to support Vietnam in this area.

According to statistics from the Swedish embassy, Sweden has provided Vietnam with a total fund of SEK 62 million, equivalently to 8.4 million, for the area of natural resources and environment.
