Vietnam Approves Space Technology Strategy by 2020

The Vietnamese Prime Minister has just approved the space technology development and application strategy by 2020 in the hope of boosting the country’s socio-economic development in combination with natural resource management, as well as environment and natural calamity supervision, state media reported.
 
Under the strategy, Vietnam’s space technology research and applications from now to 2020 that will be closely attached to the effective implementation of socioeconomic development targets, management of natural resources as well as prediction of natural disasters and for the purpose of national defense.
 
Besides, the objectives of the strategy are to turn Vietnam into a nation with medium level aerospace technology development.
 
In the 2006-2010 period, Vietnam will build and complete the legal framework on space technology research and application along with the execution of independent aerospace-researching programs led by the Vietnam Institute for Science and Technology.
 
From 2011 to 2020, Vietnam will focus on mastering small-scaled satellite-making technology and the manufacturing process of on-earth space stations with competitive costs and launching facilities.
 
The strategy will require cooperation among the related sectors including Telecommunication, Radio-Television, Hydrometeorology, Natural Resource and Environment, Agriculture, Fishery and Transport.
