Equitised State owned enterprises (SOEs) report increasingly larger capital, averaging VND17 billion (US$1.07 million) in 2005 compared to VND9.9 billion (US$626,582) a year earlier.

According to the National Steering Committee for Enterprise Reform and Development (NSCERD), an equitised SOE had an average state capital of VND17 billion, banking loan of VND22 billion and 329 laborers.

The number of equitised SOEs that did not sell stakes to outsiders fell to 26 per cent in 2005 from 52 per cent in 2003. Previously, because equitised SOEs had small capital sizes, they mainly sold stakes to insiders whereby few opportunities were left to potential investors.

By the end of April, the number of SOEs decreased to nearly 2,600.
