Nam A Bank Actively Integrating
The Vietnam Business Forum Magazine’s reporter Anh Dao had an exchange with Mr. Hoang Van Toan, General Director of Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank, about activities of Nam A Bank, one of the largest commercial joint stock banks in Vietnam.
Can you reveal the business strategy of Nam A Bank?
After 14 years of operation, Nam A Bank has a better infrastructure and a wider branch network, and has improved prestige of the bank as well as living standards of its staff. With a target of maintaining its position as one of the strongest commercial joint stock banks in Vietnam, Nam A Bank is building the “Strongly developing human resources” strategy. At the same time, the bank focuses on strengthening financial capacities, investing in modern IT applications and diversifying its products and services. In addition, the bank intensifies internal checks, operational safety and advertisement. Nam A Bank continues to be a reliable friend of enterprises, merchants, households and individuals.
As a long-established bank, can you propose solutions to extricate existing shortcomings of the banking sector?
For example, the mortgage or insecure credit is high hurdles for non-state commercial banks in the current market economy. Besides, the policy of selling by order of court still has a lot of shortcomings due to difficult legal papers. On the other side, the income tax cut roadmap for banks from 35-32 per cent is being sluggishly implemented. I think banks should enjoy more supports like VAT reduction or exemption to help banks increase capital accumulation. In addition, the State should invest in a synchronous infrastructure for the banking information system to help domestic banks to stand firmly when Vietnam integrates into the global economy.
How is Nam A Bank preparing to meet the demand of the society and develop its trademark as Vietnam enters the WTO?
After more than 10 years operating in financial and banking fields, Nam A Bank has grown into a strong network of 24 branches and three transaction offices from only two offices in the initial days. The chartered capital has been increased by 30 folds and the business size has been expanded by 50 folds. In recent years, Nam A Bank is known for its stable growth and excellent credit quality. It was rated A-grade by the State Bank of Vietnam for many years. In addition, Nam A Bank is one of a few banks to be selected by the World Bank to carry out the Rural Financial Project II since 2002. The bank is also selected the bank of the year in 2006 by consumers. With the philosophy “All for clients”, the personnel consolidation is our core priority. I always treasure able staff and I am willing to offer them training courses to help them devote their lives to their career.
