Gas Price Hikes again in August
Gas traders in Vietnam have increased retail prices on cooking gas for August sales as the world gas price rose by US$45 a ton to US$547, local media said.
From August 1, each canister of 12 kg of gas will be added with VND9,000-12,000, raising the price to VND169,000-212,000, it said.
Shell Gas and Totalgaz are now selling their gas at VND205,000 and VND204,000 a canister, respectively.
Hoanh Anh, director of Gas Petrolimex’s southern branch, the price uptrend will possibly continue in the coming months due to the political instability in the Middle East and massive accumulations by European and North American countries for the winter.
In addition, the country’s unique Dinh Co Gas Plant, which meets some 40 per cent of the domestic demand, will suspend operations for regular maintenance, resulting in a 50-70 per cent supply fall.
Vietnam is forecast to need over 800,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas in 2006.
