The Vietnam’s Special Aquatic Products Joint Stock Company (SEASPIMEX) has kicked off construction of a new seafood-processing factory worth VND126 billion ($8 million) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The new facility, covering 31,000 sq.m in Binh Chanh district’s hamlet 2, will be capable to churn out into 15,000 tons of seafood per year, three-folds that of its operational factory located in Tan Binh district.

With the new factory, scheduled to come into full operation in August of 2007, SEASPIMEX expects to boost up high value export products.

Also under its business development strategy in 2006, SEASPIMEX will seek new markets and increasing marketing and promotion activities particularly in Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea.

The company has recently successfully expanded the export market for its canned fish products to the Middle East.

In the first eight months of this year, SEASPIMEX gained $5 million in turnover from seafood exports, an increase of 60 per cent over the same period of last year.
