The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said the Vietnamese departures to Thailand in 2006 are estimated to reach 250,000, up 28 per cent on year, and Vietnamese tourists will spend 3.7 billion baht (US$100 million) in Thailand.

Vietnam is now a potential tourist market and is a favourite destination in Indochina. The country is attracting more foreign tourists.

In the first eight months of 2006, the number of international arrivals to Vietnam reached 2,406,096, a year on year increase of 4.8 per cent. The Vietnamese tourism industry is forecast to serve 3.6 million international visitors this year, fulfilling the target.

At present, the Vietnamese Government is encouraging investment in tourism projects. Thai investors should grasp this chance to expand cooperation and join hands with the Vietnamese side to make Vietnam and Thailand attractive destinations in the region.
