Vietnam Promoting Fruit, Veggie Exports to Netherlands
The President of the Vietnam Fruit Association (VNFA) has proposed the Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) to directly assist Vietnamese businesses in exporting fruits and vegetables to the European Union (EU) market.
The VNFA leader put forward the proposal on behalf of representatives from 12 domestic fruit and vegetables processing and exporting companies who were on a visit to the Netherlands to conduct market surveys, learn experiences and seek partners.
During a working session with the CBI, the Vietnamese delegation was briefed of the CBI's programs as well as how to register for using free-of-charge information on accessing the Dutch market and the EU as a whole.
While in the Netherlands, they also worked with a number of leading Dutch businesses in importing and distributing fruits to the EU and the US market as well as toured a number of export fruit packaging manufacturers.
Vietnam, who owns various kinds of tropical fruits, is estimated to have exported $219 million fruit and vegetable in the first ten months of this year, posting on year rise of 13.4 per cent.
The country is expected to rake in some $291 million from fruit and veggie exports for the whole of 2006, up nearly 24 per cent compared with 2005.
However, Vietnamese fruits and veggies have fallen into disrepute to be the most expensive ones in ASEAN region and born slightly decreases in export revenue during the past years.
Vietnamese fruit and veggie sector, is striving to boost up its reputation and export revenue by raising product quality and building up trademarks. It has also paid more attention to trade promotion, aiming at such potential market as the US and Russia beside its traditional ones like China, Taiwan and Singapore.
