Mekong Delta Farm Machines Sell Well Abroad
More and more foreign businesspeople are arriving in Mekong Delta region, Vietnam’s largest granary, to buy farm machines which will then serve farmers in ASEAN countries.
Rice-plucking machines manufactured by engineers in southwestern An Giang province are now much wanted by Cambodian businesses who made profit re-selling them in Thailand.
These machines are selling for US$5,000 each when exported to Cambodia and they are resold at between US$9,000 and 10,000 to Thailand.
The province now is home to over 10 engineering workshops which can export some 500 machines a year, still far below demand.
The machine is not only able to pluck paddy but also useful for soybeans.
A local producer now offers multi-purpose tractors to these markets at a price of US$8,000.
Meanwhile in neighboring Long An province, Vinh Hoan Harvester Machines Workshop is boosting manufacturing to fulfill its contract to export its first container of 10 mowing machines to Indonesia.
Vinh Hoan workshop sells 100 mowing machines per year. Some 40 per cent of which go to Cambodia. A machine is offered at VND20 million (US$1,250).
