European businesspeople will pour more money into Hanoi for their long-term projects, said Preben Hjortlund, member of the Executive Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.

The statement was made by Hjortlund at a meeting between Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Quoc Trieu and representatives from the European businesspeople circle on Nov. 29.

Hjortlund also noted appreciation for Hanoi’s pledge on the reform of administrative procedures and the plan for socio-economic development in the future, particularly priority for hi-tech development. He emphasized that this promises extremely favorable conditions for European firms to do business in the city.

Hanoi has to date carried out many measures to lure more foreign investors, Hjortlund said, suggesting that the city should open a wider door to both private investors inside and outside the country.

The meeting entitled “Hanoi's Future: The Role of Business in Developing the Nation’s Capital” was also a chance for European businesspeople to put forward their proposals and questions relating to the city's investment plan in terms of the public transport system and environmental protection, as well as priorities for investment.

At the gathering, Dr. Lucien van Neer, Senior Medical Officer of the International SOS Clinics Vietnam, said his company will soon survey Vietnam’s investment environment and is likely to plan to expand or develop its establishments in the country.

As of late October this year, Hanoi had attracted 737 foreign direct investment projects worth a total capital of US$9.93 million, posting the second position nationwide behind Ho Chi Minh City.
