EVN Begins Testing Competitive Power Generation Market

Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) began the competitive power generation market Wednesday with participation of power generation companies and taskforces, Pham Le Thanh, general director of EVN said.
 
Accordingly, from 0:00h January 3, the National Electricity Regulating Center will operate the national power grid in compliance with prices offered by the participants, Thanh said.
 
Meanwhile, EVN applied new retail electricity prices that rose 7.6 per cent on average against that last year from January 1 this year, Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of Hanoi Electricity’s Business Department said.
 
For the first 100kWh, the rates remain unchanged, at VND550/kWh, for the next 101-150kWh the rate will rise 23 per cent, for 151-200th kWh 21 per cent, from 201-300kWh 19 per cent, from 301-400kWh 23 per cent and over 400kWh 27 per cent.
 
The readjustment of power rates is in line with a recent decision by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Tuan noted. (Labour, New Hanoi)
