Recently, the Prime Minister has provided guidelines on the operation of rice export in 2007 at the request of some ministries. According to the Prime Minister’s guidelines, Vietnam will export between four and 4.5 million tonnes of rice in 2007. Based on the results of major crops in the year, the export volume may be adjusted in the third quarter.

The Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Trade and the Working Group to act as focal point in regulating the export of rice in each quarter. Accordingly, the Prime Minister asks the two agencies to guide the signing of contracts and delivery of rice in time for contracts of high prices in the traditional markets of Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, Malaysia and Japan.
