Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on April 24 urged the oil and gas sector to accelerate implementation of gas-fueled projects and closely work with Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to carry out the Long Son oil and gas industrial cluster project.

Dung made the recommendation while inspecting the construction site of the Nhon Trach power plant I in Dong Nai province.

The prime minister told Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) to increase prospecting of oil fields both inside and outside the country, and to ensure sufficient gas supply for the nation’s gas-fueled works, including Phu My fertilizer factory and Nhon Trach power plant.

He asked the group to continue investing in Nhon Trach power plant II, which is expected to cost US$650 million and have a capacity of 750 MW.

PetroVietnam began building the 450-MW Nhon Trach plant I on March 24, 2007. The US$420-million plant is scheduled to be completed within the next 12 months.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau province-based Long Son complex, including a possible refinery, is estimated to need US$10 billion investment capital. (VNA)
