Sekoong province in Laos will introduce more incentives to lure more investment capital from Vietnam, the third largest investor in Laos, said Lieng Khamphoune, the provincial governor.

The province is calling investment in the areas at Vietnam’s strength of rubber cultivation, animal breading, electric power generation and mining, he said.

The locality has also pledged land and labor supply and many other incentives for Vietnamese companies, particularly in agricultural production sectors.

Sekoong province shares a 250-km borderline with Vietnam’s central provinces of Kon Tum, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue. It has more than 10,000 hectares under rubber cultivation.

Vietnamese enterprises have so far registered to invest nearly 100 projects, valued over US$1 billion, in Laos, he revealed. Among them, 71 projects capitalized at US$516 million have been granted licenses, in the areas of hydroelectricity, mining, agriculture and forestry, and the production of medicines and consumer commodities.
