Vietnam's Viettel Eyes Telecom Service Expansion to Singapore, Thailand
Vietnam Military Telecom Corp. (Viettel) is preparing to make its first jump into the Singaporean and Thai markets, said a company top official on July 5.
Viettel will focus at first on providing express delivery and postal services in Singapore and Thailand, which is described as initial steps before expanding business to other regional countries.
The military-run telecom service provider has discussed joint venture projects with three foreign partners.
In late 2006, the corporation entered Cambodia with its Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) service, then expanded to mobile phone and internet service, becoming the first Vietnamese telecom company to invest abroad.
Viettel is now the second largest express delivery service provider in Vietnam after VNPT Group, which is also the largest telecom firm in the country.
Last year, the company earned VND200 billion (US$12.5 million) from express delivery service. (Labourers, VNA)
