SCT(Vietnam) Gas is one of several Thailand-invested profit-making gas trading companies in Vietnam. With the presence of more than 60 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) trading firms in the country, Picnic Corporation, the holder of SCT Gas Vietnam, is securing a business foothold not only in Dong Nai Province, but also in Vietnam as a whole.
Picnic Corporation is one of three leading gas traders in Thailand and has rapidly growing sales. Picnic has invested in Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh, and is planning to extend to China. Picnic focused its investment in fast-growing economies like Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. Its renowned brands include Picnic Gas and World Gas.
Picnic invested in Vietnam through its subsidiary, SCT (Vietnam) Gas. The company has advantages over its rivals, such as favourable LPG delivery locations and a large storage depot in Vietnam (only 10 per cent of gas firms have storage facilities). Especially, the company has its own piers that make the LPG transport costs lower.
SCT (Vietnam) Gas’s famous brands, including Picnic gas, V-Gas and PM Gas, are favourites in the country. Currently, the company has distribution and service channels for three customer segments: industrial gas, canister gas agents and refilling agents. Apart from the head office in Dong Nai Province, SCT also has LPG branches in Lam Dong Province and Vung Tau City to develop the central and southern markets. In the near future, the company will expand to northern provinces. SCT also invested in producing gas canisters in Phu My Industrial Park I in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, to supply gas canisters for gas trading firms in Vietnam and other countries.
Mr Chattikan Charodphonphan, Managing Director of SCT, is very optimistic about the development of the company. He said, “The company will have business plans. It will use experience in gas trading, gained in Thailand and other markets, in Vietnam. The company also encountered but overcame several challenges to success. In the last quarters of this year and in the coming years, we believe we will hold the leading position in gas trading in Vietnam.”
Currently, the Vietnamese gas market is developing strongly. Demand for LPG by Vietnamese consumers grows 15-20 per cent annually. Growth will be stronger when the revolution to use environmentally friendly fuel is launched in Vietnam, in the context of a limited presence of the leading professional gas traders. Therefore, SCT absolutely has grounds to believe in its advantages toward the marketability of its products and competitiveness on the market.
“We have a qualified, devoted and interdependent workforce; thus, our business is going very well. Moreover, Dong Nai is a large province and is the economic centre of south-eastern region with many industrial areas. This will make our company, as well as others in the locality, more competitive in the market,” Chattikan Charodphonphan added.
