Malaysia Thirsty for Vietnamese Construction Workers
Malaysia needs 16,000 foreign construction workers annually, including those from Vietnam to meet the development of local construction sector, the Overseas Worker Management Department under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) said.
According to a source from Malaysia, an official of the Overseas Worker Management Department of Vietnam in the foreign country has worked with the Construction Labor Exchange Center Berhad of Malaysia on the issue, the department said, adding that the two sides have agreed to boost cooperation in the field.
The ministry has allowed Vietnam Glass and Construction Ceramics Corporation (Viglacera) to sign a contract with a Malaysian partner. Accordingly, the Vietnamese side will train and supply laborers in the construction sector for the Malaysian partners.
It is estimated that foreign construction laborers receive daily minimum salary of MYR30 (US$8.8).
Malaysia is now one of four biggest labor markets of Vietnam. In August, 2007, Vietnam sent more than 2,100 to Malaysia. (Youth)
