Alcatel-Lucent, VNPT Ink US$60 Mln Contracts
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has signed contracts worth US$60 million with the French-based Alcatel-Lucent on the occasion of the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to France from September 30-October 3.
Under those contracts, Alcatel-Lucent will provide VMS MobiFone with 754 base transceiver stations (BTS) worth US$21.5 million and SDH equipment for northern provinces of Vietnam.
Alcatel-Lucent and VNPT will also establish a modern Internet protocol center to support the transfer of IP network and develop the broadband network of VNPT in Vietnam and the world.
Specifically, Alcatel-Lucent will provide VNPT with profound knowledge and experience on product, solution and services related to IP technology, IP repair and manufacturing services, IP training center, and IP-based service development centers.
“These are worthy deals,” said VNPT Chairman Pham Long Tran, adding that the contracts would help the corporation further expand operation in the local telecom market.
Vietnam has the greatest demand for broadband Internet, with 72 per cent of Internet users at Internet cafes and 75 per cent of Internet users at the office wanting to use broadband Internet service at home, according to a survey by Alcatel-Lucent in ten countries that have developing Internet markets.
