Vinacomin Exploits 30.2 Mln Tons of Coal in Jan-Sept

Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) is reported to exploit 30.2 million tons of coal in the first nine months, totaling the country coal output to 30.8 million tons, up 14.9 per cent and 12.3 per cent on year, respectively, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said Monday.
 
The country’s top miner exported 17.8 million tons (or 73 per cent of the total output) up 17 per cent on year, mainly to neighboring country of China. The remaining 12.4 million tons are used for domestic power plants.
 
This year, Vietnam’s coal industry plans to exploit 37 million tons of coal, down from 40 million tons in 2006.
 
Vietnam plans to reduce outbound coal shipments to 12 million tons by 2010, five million tons by 2015 and after 2015 it will gradually cut its coal export volume to zero in order to serve rapidly increasing domestic consumption. (Ministry of Industry and Trade)
