Thang Long Garment Joint Stock Company (Thaloga) was established in 1958. After 49 years of development, the company has a firm foothold in domestic and world markets. With a workforce of 2,200 people including 2,000 skilled workers, the company has produced some 10 million products meeting the demand for domestic consumption and export. Currently, the company has three main workshops producing knit-wear, pants and shirts, and safety garments.
Main products of Thaloga are shirts (for men and women), pants, suits, jackets, jeans, overcoats, uniforms (for children and adults), sports wear and knitwear.
To promote exports, the company has invested more in modern equipment, increasing productivity and the quality of products. In 2006, the company was equitized and applied new technology in production. It can now produce 100,000-150,000 shirts, 100,000-120,000 pants, 500,000 cotton products and 100,000 other products every month.
Thaloga has its main office at 250 Minh Khai, Hanoi, and two factories in Nam Dinh and Haiphong. Turnover this year is expected at US$3 million.
Currently, the company is building its third factory in Ha Nam, to start operating in June 2008.
According to Ms Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Deputy Director General, the company will increase exports in the coming years. Like most other companies, the main market of the company is the US (75 per cent of the company’s market share). Thaloga’s American partner companies include The Children Place, American Eagle, Target, Levis, Quick, Union bay, Walmart, and Perry Ellis.
Besides these advantages, the company has also many difficulties, especially in materials. The company has to import 95 per cent of its materials, the main cause cost increases. The company also has difficulties in its workforce. Though it has applied incentive measures such as insurance and bonuses, it still faces a shortage of workers.
However, Thaloga believes that with State assistance, its trademark will be famous at home and abroad.
