Ben Kien Shipyard Co has kicked off construction of two cargo vessels with the designed capacity of 4,600 deadweight tons each in a contract with Denmark Clipper group.
Ben Kien will build the two vessels with designs of Danish Carl Bro under the supervision of the foreign country’s registry agency, the source noted, adding that they [the vessels] will meet international ship building standards.
The source said Ben Kien expected to hand over the first ship in 2008 but did not mention any information about the investment.
Each of the two vessels will be measured at 90.9 meters in length, 17 meters in width, 9.5 meters in height, and 6.5 meters deep into water and can travel at top speed of 14.5 nautical miles per hour, an official of the Vinahsin affiliate said.
Vinahsin targets revenues of US$1 billion this year, up from US$690 million in 2005 and to export US$1-billion worth of ship by 2010. (Pioneer)
