Vietnam National Railway Corporation (VNR) and Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) on October 26 inked a comprehensive cooperation deal in developing inland ports (Inland Container Depot- ICD) in key economic zones.

The two sides will set up a railway network to transport goods at these ICDs. VNR and Vinalines also discussed the investment in building a railway network connecting to the sea port network of Vinalines. In the short term, the two corporations will focus on developing three centres in the north, the central and the south, to establish a widespread distribution network.

In the first phase of the project, the two sides will research jointly investing in an ICD project in northern Lao Cai Province, and cooperate in trading multiple modes of transport based on the strengths of each side. VNR and Vinalines plan to buy stakes in member enterprises of the other side when they are privatised, and set up joint ventures.
