Indian Giant to Build US$68 Mln Carbon Black Plant in Central Vietnam
India’s Philipps Carbon Black Ltd Co has recently received the green light to invest US$68 million to build a carbon black plant in the central Quang Ngai province.
The plant will use 30,000 tons of fuel oil (FO) from Dung Quat oil refinery and 170,000 tons of carbon black oil imported from the U.S., to produce 110,000 tons of carbon black each year, the source noted.
The newspaper didn't report any date for building the plant.
Philipps Carbon Black and the Vietnam Chemical Corp (Vinachem) in July signed a memorandum of understanding on the project during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung working visit to India. They planned to set up a joint venture to carry out the project in local Dung Quat economic zone.
This is the first project of Philipps Carbon Black in Vietnam.
Phillips Carbon Black Limited, part of the RPG Group, pioneered the carbon black industry in India. It is now the leading producer of carbon black in the country. (Vietnam Banking Times)
