U.K. Attaches Important Partnership with Vietnam: New Ambassador
The U.K. newly accredited ambassador to Vietnam Mark Kent affirmed his country attaches a special partnership to the Asean nation.
The diplomat told BBC that the U.K. is promoting for a free trade agreement with the Asean bloc and Vietnam plays an important role during the negotiation process.
The ambassador also expressed the U.K. expects to hold more direct dialogues with Vietnam in issues of the UN Security Council.
He believed the investment and trade ties between Vietnam and the U.K. would strongly develop in the next years. The UK is currently among the largest EU investors in Vietnam. The total U.K. investment in Vietnam is worth approximately £2.5 billion (US$4.9 billion), notably in financial services and oil and gas sectors.
Mark Kent also said he would try his utmost during the term in Vietnam to boost the bilateral cooperation in fields of education, culture, anti-crime, illegal immigration, and help the country strengthen administrative management capacity. (People's Army, VNA)
