Charoen Pokphand came to survey the Vietnam market quite early (1989) after the country opened the policy to attract foreign investment. Until 1993, Charoen Pokphand Group officially built the first cattle feed factory in Vietnam. So far, CP has opened dozens of factories, thousands of breeding farms nationwide and gradually expanded its operation into other fields. CP’s products are always diverse and of high quality, assuring its success in husbandry.
Goods-oriented agricultural development
Since the first appearance in Vietnam, CP breathed new life into Vietnam agriculture. Mr Wangrungarun, Vice Chairman of CP, said: “People in the past often thought that working was profit and they used cattle feed quite casually, therefore, the breeding results were not high”. From CP’s long experience, to be successful in raising cattle, people should pay attention to the quality of breed, the building and sanitation of cages, farming, epidemic preventive methods, market information updating and especially enough room, besides feeds. These are key factors in goods-oriented agricultural development. CP has processed many high quality feeds for cattle, suitable for many types of growth periods. The company has also produced millions of breeds (chicken, pig, shrimp, duck and fish) to provide people with healthy stock. Hundreds of satellite farming facilities in many localities have been applying the advanced raising management system set by CP and gained hundreds of millions of dong in revenue annually.
Indeed, only when witnessing MR Dang Son’s chicken breeding model in Chuong My District, Ha Tay Province, did we thoroughly understand the significance of industrial breeding model. Mr Son said, “According to the regulations of CP: close cages system, positive control temperature and daylight time, strict control of people and vehicles entering the farm, weekly overall sanitation, bactericidal radiation next to cages. Flu vaccinations are given when chickens are one day old and repeated at 10 weeks old, bringing uniform and high economic results.”
Broad, multi-sector development
With the philosophy “wherever benefit for society, people, there will be CP”, CP has been gradually investing to improve the present production ability and scopes for other fields. Recently, CP revealed the plan to invest US$3.6 billion into Vietnam in 5 years to come. Beside continuing building more cattle feed factories in 2007-2012, within 2008 CP anticipates increasing the Ha Tay cattle feed factory capacity to 700,000 tonnes per year, for a total capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year in Vietnam. CP will invest into fishery with projects to build fish feed factories and an experimental farm. Moreover, CP will invest into real estate and a series of retail shops (Fresh Mart), the telecommunication sector - specifically doing business on subscribed or mobile phones, and treated spore coal - the coal often used to produce electricity.
