Viet A Group Holdings Company is well-known in Vietnam not only for its position in domestic and international markets as a diversified business group with 17 subsidiary companies, 7 factories and 4 representatives abroad and employing over 2,000 people with turnover of approximately US$100 million in 2007, but it also lays on the image of the women leader Md. Pham Thi Loan, President & CEO, the member of the Vietnam National Assembly, representing for Hanoi Capital City. She is considered a typical and leading woman in the gender equality in Vietnam.

Over a decade, she has built Viet A with a firm position in the market. It operates in the fields of manufacturing and supplying materials, electrical and electronic equipment (cables and conductor accessories, indoor equipment, electronic equipment, outdoor equipment, compact and complete substation), EPC and turn-key on supply and construction for power projects, hydro power plants, thermal power plants, and industrial plants, consultancy, engineering and supervision for power and civil projects, composites and plastics, real estate investment, and others.

In her opinion, a successful woman is to share commitments and concerns to support other women more successful in the society. In our previously known society, the inequality, discrimination against girls in family and family-tree in madam Loan’s mind has left out the opportunity and rights to be born and survival of many girls while the roles, contributions of women - the wives and mothers have been ignored in family-tree. At that time, the social inequality among men and women has resulted in inequality in education, training, income and career promotion. That society did not recognize and respect the role of women, causing a big loss and a slowdown in the development of a modern society.

Having visited many countries, acquired extensive business experience, she has also defined her very popular role as a member of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Md. Pham Thi Loan always pays great attention to doing “something” to contribute to the cause of Gender Equality in Vietnam as well as further to participate in international gender equality programs. She said: “I will try my best with all my talent toward a society in which all men and women are equal in opportunity to be born, listed in family-tree, enjoy the same care and love, being educated at the same level, be recognized, respected as well as given favorable conditions to make honorable contribution to society and community”.

The word“Something” sounds practically easy but just a few people really do it if they were not born as “Kind-hearted” for society and women. At all given roles, she has conducted joint practical activities to meet her objectives as such to prevent woman trafficking, family violence, supporting women with difficulties, etc. As a business woman, she has carried out range of activities with career associations, enterprises community as well as International organizations to pay more attention to female recruitment, raising their education, training and ensuring the income equality for them.

At the governmental level, she has contributed many ideas, recommendations to build up micro-policies to which regulate the gender equality, recognizing the roles of women in the country’s development. Women need to contribute to activities in the social, political and scientific issues and should be well taken care in their life, and being well provided the knowledge on reproductive health. At family and community level, Md. Loan has worked with the local Women Union to hold campaigns for raising awareness on gender equality for all people and further to local governmental authorities where Viet A is operating.

For years, her efforts and activities have made significant contributions to the society, especially on changing ideas of gender and gender equality in Vietnam. Those contributions have been recognized and respected by the society and local people. Md. Loan is one of the two women in Vietnam who have been granted “Torch for Gender Equality” by Danish Embassy to Hanoi, represented the global women campaign in Vietnam.

“I pledge to be a Torch and strongly believe with all our effort, we will succeed, our women society will be prosperous” said Md. Loan at the Ceremony on Granting Torch by Danish Embassy.
