The EVN Telecom under the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has announced its deal to invest US$30 million into an Intra-Asia sea cable project which officially reached shore on June 12, Nguyen Manh Bang, director of EVN Telecom said.
 
The 6,800 km long IA system will link Vietnam with China, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines, Bang revealed.
 
The system's initial transmission capacity will be 320 Gbps and then 5.6 Tbps after an upgrade.
 
The US$200 project will allow EVN Telecom to provide low connection costs and large capacity direct international connection, and generally increase the communication capacity with overseas, he added.
 
EVN Telecom has around 2.2 million subscribers utilizing CDMA technology. That figure is expected to rise to 2.5 million by the end of this year and four million by the end of 2008. (Young People, The People)
