Vietnam, Republic of Palau Set up Diplomatic Relations
Vietnam and the Republic of Palau, a small island nation nearby the Philippines, have just signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic ties.
The signing was made August 18 by Ambassadors of Vietnam and Palau to the Philippines in the capital of Manila.
The Palau Republic includes 340 islands, with a total area of over 304 square kilometers. It has a population of 20,000 people living in nine key islands.
The nation’s GDP in 2007 reached US$163 million, with tourism, agriculture and fisheries are main industries. (The People, chinhphu.vn)
