President Nguyen Minh Triet and his spouse will pay visits to Russia and Mongolia at the invitations of Russian and Mongolian counterparts Dmitry Medvedev and Nambaryn Enkhbayar from Oct 26 to 31, Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry said.

Triet and his wife will visit Kremlin Oct 26 to 29 and Mongolia Oct 30 to 31, the ministry said, specifying no details.

In the context of the global financial turmoil and pending economic recession, the coming visits by President Triet to Russia and Mongolia are aimed at expanding trade and investments, observers said.

Because the EU and the U.S. buy up to 25 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively, of Vietnam’s exports are facing recession triggered by the financial crisis, they added.

Meanwhile, Kremlin recently said it highly appreciated the role played by Vietnam within Asean, Apec and United Nations, considering Vietnam as a strategic and reliable partner.
