Iraq Buys 30,000 Tons of Rice from Vietnam
Iraq has bought 30,000 tons of rice from Vietnam via a tender for shipment early 2009, the Vietnam & World Economy reported, quoting a foreign source.
The country bought the long grain, 5 per cent broken rice via a European companies at US$411 a ton, FOB.
The source said Iraq is seeking agreement to buy 200,000 tons of wheat from Russia, Germany and Canada, and 80,000 tons of long grain rice from Vietnam, India and Pakistan.
Currently in Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, rice and paddy prices are rebounding after Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked local companies to buy 500,000-600,000 tons of rice from farmers.
The prices rose by VND200-VND300 a kilogram from late November to VND3,900 a kilogram of 25 per cent broken rice, and VND4,700-4,800 a kilogram of 5 per cent broken rice. (Vietnam & World Economy, Saigon Liberation)
