Bilateral trade between Vietnam the United Kingdom (U.K.) in the past ten months of this year increased 21.2 per cent on-year to £990 million (US$1.42 billion), An The Dung, Vietnamese Trade Counsellor to the U.K. and North Ireland said.

Of the total, Vietnam exported US$1.2 billion worth of goods to the U.K., up 17 per cent on-year and imported US$220 million, up 49 per cent.

Footwear, apparel, woodwork products, farm produce and seafood are Vietnam’s key exports to the U.K.

Vietnam is now considered the world’s most attractive emerging market by business leaders, and suffers the least from the effects of the current global financial crisis, said a recent report by the U.K. Trade and Investment (UKTI).

The U.K. is the biggest among EU donors to Vietnam and ranks third among European investors with 105 projects worth US$1.9 billion.

The U.K. is one of Vietnam’s important trade partners from the EU and is among Vietnam’s top ten export markets. In 2007, bilateral trade stood at US$1.8 billion, including Vietnam's trade surplus of US$1.6 billion. (Vietnam & World Economy)
