Vietnam Exports to U.S. to Grow 14 per cent in 2009 - Ministry
The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has forecast that exports to the U.S. to expand only 14 per cent in 2009, lower than 19 per cent growth in 2008. The U.S. buys up to 21 per cent of Vietnam's exports.
The slow exports growth is attributed to the dropping demand triggered by the global economic slowdown and protectionism tools imposed by the U.S., trade analysts said.
However, Vietnam has many opportunities to ship goods to the foreign market, the textile and garment sector has seen the door to the U.S. open after the U.S. Department of Commerce concluded lack of evidence to launch antidumping investigation into Vietnamese products.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has also approved fresh dragon fruit imports from Vietnam, paving the way for the fruit to seek larger market share.
Last year, Vietnam exported US$12.2 billion to the U.S. including US$5.2 billion worth of apparel products. (VNA
