Vietnam's Crude Oil Exports +23.1 per cent to US$10.45 Bln in 2008
Vietnam is forecast to have obtained US$10.45 billion from exporting 13.9 million metric tons of crude oil in 2008, up 23.1 per cent on year in value but down 7.7 per cent in volume, said the General Statistic Office (GSO).
In December, the country has shipped 1.61 million metric tons of crude oil aboard, up 49.07 per cent on month and 27.77 per cent on year, the office said.
The Southeast Asian nation is forecast to have attained US$550 million from the outbound shipment during the month, up 18.27 per cent on month but down 37.85 per cent on year, according to the GSO.
Though Vietnam reports on-month increase in crude oil export volume, it still earns smaller export value due to the global tumbling price by two third against the peak of US$147 per barrel in July.
Crude oil is now Vietnam’s largest forex earner, representing 16.61 per cent of the country’s export revenues in the year, said the office.
The country is forecast to have spent US$10.81 billion importing 12.65 million metric tons of petroleum products in 2008, up 40.2 per cent on year in value and 1.5 per cent in volume, the office said. (GSO Dec 2008)
