Vietnam Telecom Giant VNPT Aims for US$3.5 Bln Revenue in 2009
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group has set an ambitious target for the year 2009 with a high growth rate and a revenue of VND60 trillion (US$3.5 billion).
To this end, the group will continue to expand and modernize the country’s telecom infrastructure and develop its fixed telephone lines, mobile network and broadband service.
Despite economic difficulties, the group will strive to gain the set target, VNPT spokesman Bui Quoc Viet said.
Last year, VNPT reported revenue of nearly VND55.5 trillion (US$3.4 million), an increase of 19 per cent from 2007, and contributed over VND6.8 trillion to the state coffers.
In 2008, VNPT signed up 22 million subscribers to its list of phone users, increasing the number of its subscribers to 49 million.
By the end of 2008, VNPT accounted for 60 per cent of the country’s mobile market share.
VNPT is now responsible for 64 per cent of the country’s high-speed internet service and has 1.3 million internet subscribers.
Thanks to the 50 per cent discount offered by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) last September, international call charges from Vietnam are lower than any other country in the region. (Vietnam Economic Times)
