Germany’s Metro Cash & Carry Jan 16 started construction of a EUR20-million wholesale center in Vietnam’s southern Dong Nai province, the ninth of its kind in Vietnam so far.

The center will cover an area of 50,000 sq.m in Bien Hoa town and will display over 35,000 kinds of products with 95 per cent produced in Vietnam, said Randy Guttery, General Director of Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam.

Once operated this June, the center will generate around 270 new jobs, said the company.

The world’s third largest commercial company opened business in Vietnam in 2002 and has so far set up a chain of nine wholesale centers worth around US$120 million, including three in Ho Chi Minh City, two in Hanoi, one in northern port Haiphong City, one in central Danang City, another in southern Can Tho City and the newly-kicked off one in Dong Nai.
